Building a new
payment method

Sberbank is the largest fintech company, with over 100 million monthly active users and a vast ecosystem. I worked as a product designer and engaged in dynamic collaboration with analytics, engineers, stakeholders, and the research team. Together, we innovated and enhanced user experiences, striving to make our payment method not just efficient, but a top competitor against giants like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and traditional card or cash payments.

Design process

I created a Payment Customer Journey Map to identify barriers and resolve them. After discussing it with my team, we made strategic decisions to enhance the payment process.

I designed QR payment interfaces for businesses and worked with marketing and brand designers to ensure consistent branding.

Also I designed a guidebook for our QR payment product to streamline conversations with partners and ensure consistent implementation in their technical environments. I communicated closely with all our partners to make the user experience consistent.

For clients, I designed an intuitive QR payment solution where you scan the QR code at the register to make a fast, secure payment via your phone without needing NFC. You can also check your balance before making a payment.

Why does it look like this? I wanted the payment page to be as personal and engaging as Apple Pay. Instead of a green gradient, you could feature a picture of your shop or a promo image to make the page unique and memorable.

With this payment method, it's not just for SberBank Online users. We also collaborate
with other banks like Tinkoff and Sovkombank, allowing people to pay using their favorite bank app!

For businesses that already have a cash office with a scanner and prefer not to change it, we developed a solution where the cashier simply scans the client’s QR code for payment.

Also, we introduced an important feature that allows transactions in the pre-login zone, so customers can make payments even without internet access in the store

While QR Pay was a strong solution, it was still slower than Apple Pay. To address this, I proposed creating widgets for key features to enhance the user experience. Using the JTBD (Jobs to be done) framework, I analyzed our existing solutions and identified how widgets could streamline
and improve the payment process.
